The Tooth Fairy Story Film Analysis: Animated Journey with a Touch of Family-Friendly Preteen Love Story

Throughout this animated journey for preteens, the fairy community is dedicated to collecting teeth from sleeping children and leaving gold beneath where they sleep. Board-riding youthful nonconformist fairy Van (voiced by Booboo Stewart) is less than thrilled about spending his future to gathering baby teeth—a sentiment that’s entirely reasonable. He is just a bit more curious about the financial workings behind it all: the fairies hand over the molars to mysterious goblins, who provide metal in exchange. However, Van’s interest is piqued when he catches sight of a goblin (played by Larkin Bell), who proves to be far from the ugly creature he had imagined.

An Unlikely Bond and Shared Threat

Everything is prepared for an exciting quest with a light sprinkling of teen romance (even though it remains perfectly appropriate for children). The fairy and goblin groups are estranged from each other, and nothing fuels the excitement of secrecy to unite beings as one. Both groups as seen here are remarkably alike, yet each holds prejudiced beliefs about the opposite side. Fairies are supposed to be entitled sorts, given to taking whatever they fancy, while the goblins are allegedly stupid, foul-smelling, and primitive, but are actually intelligent and advanced in technology.

Naturally, such a setup needs a shared foe to unite against, and that need is met by a group of vicious spiders, with voices by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. They make no secret about their intentions: they want to eat the goblins and fairies, and they serve as quite savage, though not especially competent, villains.

Ideal Viewers and Final Thoughts

There aren’t very many children’s animations targeting the viewer group that is beginning to have early romances, but aren’t yet mature enough for whatever teenagers view these days in lieu of popular teen sagas. If your child is in the right age bracket, this is unlikely to become their new favorite movie, but it’s a decent choice.

The Tooth Fairy Story arrives in movie theaters in Scotland starting October 10 and across the United Kingdom beginning October 24.
